Default torque

what is it, or what are the factors that determine whether your car makes good torque over actual bhp? ie you can have 2 more or less identical chipped cars, using same chips, injectors etc,but one of them will produce far more torque than the other, why is this?

think it is detemined by what components are used,eg turbo, pistons etc.but not sure how you go about finding out whats got to matched to to high torque.maybe compression ratio to?

Torque is how hard the crank gets turned.

BHP is how hard it gets turned multiplied by how quickly.

Hope that helps.

PS

No you cant, unless there is a fault they will be the same torque and the same power if t hey are the same spec.

bhp is a formula that give you POWER (rate of work).

Torque is what makes you accelerate REGARDLESS of engine or road speed!

Torque is the force and power is the rate at which you can apply the force.. in an ideal world, "identical" specs will provide idential results.. however rolling roads are bullshit, engines are rarely the same spec (owners rarely know what the actual spec, history is).. it's all academic really!

In the scenario you suggest the main difference is usually engine wear such as bores/cams.

If turbos, you will normally find one has more boost PEAK than the other.

Camshaft TIMING of course also plays a part in the peak torque area.
