Default A few cam questions

spoke to newman cams earlier (ps if anyojne has any bad stories about em plz tell me) and they'll do me a nice re-grind for 110 notes (special one for turbo application) which is cool

only thing is i need to give em a cam to regrind

ford no longer sell em and even if they did they want 250quid for JUST the cam

so firsty, anyone know where i can get a decent cam from (can be 2nd hand, just cant be fucked)

secondly, i wanna replace all the normal bits that come in a cam "kit" but what exacly are these?

im thinking just new springs, tappets (are these followers?) and pushrods... anything else? the heads will be getting hardened valve seats fitted at the same time, so it allneeds to come apart anyway...

I take it were talking about the XR4I in the pics??
If so just followers and depending on grind, possibly springs, you should be able to re-use the pushrods no probs.Just check rocker arms for wear while you have it all apart

oh wait that a point i need a new rocker arm on one side (un-related issue)... lol

luckily ive got some spare :P

just spoke to pper n kent n piper said to just use their off the shelf 270 profile... kent went REALLY techy...

he quited me the following figures... anyone know what they mean? lol and if its good advice?

between 268 and 272 on the inlet lobes, and 276 on the exhaust lobes with a 114degree LCA

this would be the same price as their stock 276 cam, even tho it'll be a custom grind... the cam kit is 258+vat and includes followers and springs...

he said not to bother with pushrods as these rarely need replacing

Jim, piper will do you a off off grind with reduced overlap. in kit form its about Ł250 and will include all the new bits you need and your won't have to give them a cam.

heres the info i got from them..

a turbo cam needs less overlap than a normally aspirated
one. I recommend out BP270 profile ground at a lobe angle of 114 deg. The
cost of this cam is Ł146.00 + vat or cam kit Ł249.00 + vat.

sounds similar to what the guy at kent said... his man hangup on the piper was that it was quoted 112* LCA (whatever the feck that means) and said 114 was better to go for...
