ive hot 2 shields on my starter, ones is a thick silver sheat that wraps around the starter and solenoid, the other clips onto the oil return
when hot its very slow and gives the impression that its gona lock up but does still star the car
anyone elses suffer from this? is it normal?

Sounds like the starters been subjected to heat before (maybe their wasnt a heat shield all of it's life?)
also sounds like it's still getting hot, maybe wrap a section of the downpipe in heat wrap where the heat would be coming from, could try some heatwrap on the starter, all i can think of really apart from a new starter! oh could open the starter up an grease it!
