When i go to start it back up it sometimes back fires and smokes like mad but will not tick over the only way i can get it to run again is to unplug the ecu and connnect it again any thoughts of what this could be cheers in advance bri

i'd replace both as a matter of course, just because they look ok, doesn't mean they are

crank sensor is located to the bottom of the crank pully, make sure it is gapped properly, 0.3 to 0.7mm from the crank lug to the sensor nose.

while you are about it, disconnect the 3 connectors on the bulkhead behind the engine, and check that the contacts are clean, pay special attention to the one nearest the battery with larger wires in it, disconnect and plug it back together a few times to clean the contacts.

but for fuck sake, do NOT spray any shit like WD40 on them, it will dry up the lithium grease that helps the electrical connections

If it is the connectors causing grief - as a 4x4 owner you will get used to cleaning the connectors as regular maintenance thing

Another one would be to check the ign mod on the inner wing passenger side.. Clean up the connections..

I had this problem for 5 months and it ended up being that the earth to the engine was shite..

Brought a earth lead (Like one u get in a amp kit) and earthed the engine directly to the battery. Clean up a connection either end... The leads are usually around a fiver... After i brought/replaced every sensor the cheapest fix of the all sorted the problem..
