Default Turbo oil feed

Has anyone got one of Mike Rainbirds turbo oil filters?

I understand it takes the oil feed from the inlet side of the engine but where does it actually take the feed from?

Is it true there is a better oil feed this side of the block aswell?

Looks like this from mikes web site

Looking at that pic Paul i would say it is taken from the same place as 2wd headed YB's which is down where the oil pressure light switch is in the block.

That pic is how mine is done too - 2wd style from the inlet side, like Spadge says.

4x4 iirc come from near the exhaust manifold on the head - shorter pipe run.

Which is better? I don't know, but it could be said it was changed for a reason on the newer 4x4 cars.... so would be best left as it is on yours unless someone comes up with a good reason why not.

So from where this red arrow is pointing

I need to run from this side as the exhaust side has a aeroquip blank with a fooked head that won't come out

I take is no. 9 is a 2wd fitting and 9A is the 4x4 version that I have so I will need a no. 9 if I want to do this

Actually thinking about it the 4x4 version 9a has a blank in the bottom of it (looks like a little cap with a red + next to it. I wonder if it would fit into that?

9 is what's on mine Paul - that Microcat image is far better than trying to explain it.

Get one from Ford I guess, though may be worth trying the breakers first to see if they have one lying around.

Good luck

paul its a better option as the head may suffer from oil stavation so this is generally perfered

but as for the oil filter idea, thats just pointles as if you think about what its doing,,,,,,,, its filtering before the turbo so in theory what its gonna do is create a blockage and still starve the turbo OR the bit tats gonna kill the turbo aint gonne get in it due to the pipe being much smaller anyway

its just another pretty thing to add to a engine and a thing for turbo companys to use for when they wanna get out of warranty claims

ive never ran one and ive also ran my cossie engine with no oil registering on the dip stick ( and this is a 7.7 litre sump) and the turbo is still fine,,,,,,,, engine was erm,,,,,,,,,,,, anyway the turbo was fine and i never used one

If I'm honest I had decided against using a filter anyway but I used Mike R's kit as the example as I didn't know how else to ask about the 2wd oil feed conection

I have an 8 in my 9 on my car - the old engine was originally from a 2wd car, and so I have a mix of 2wd and 4x4 parts on mine. Very confusing!

I doubt you can mix a 8a switch with a 9 thingy, only 8a with 9a and 8 with 9. That's probably as clear as mud!

Bascially you will prob need a 2wd pressure switch and the part no 9 to make it all work on your car. Remove the 8a and 9a from your car.

I also have an SPA oil pressure sensor tapped into my 9 as well making it even more of a headache!

Bloody confusing when it comes to ordering bits for it

well its a good idea i heard just cause the top of the engine will be the first to not get oil in the event of a issue and as a result not only doe you kill the engine but the turbo tiny bearing would go dry quicker too is the argument

ive got a tech supliment at work about all the stuff they done to the 200 block engines compared to the 205 and the reasons for it but there was no real pointing argument for this i recall

but they did use the 500 water pumo and thermostat in the 4x4 engines hence the price difference

if its a 4wd head why not use the head feed for the oil presure gauge and then you could see the engines loss of presure sooner i guess,,,,,,,,, this is just waht im thinking when im typing so may not be a good idea but it sound to me like it makes sence
