Alright folks,
My missus is going for an intrview with IBM Computers on Tuesday. She needs to be able to demostrate a knowledge of the IBM corporation. A subject which she knows absolutely nothing about.
Soooo, can anyone on here give her a bit of info about the company, who they are associated with etc.
Cheers for your help

Whats she gonna be doing and where's it based? I work for IBM.
And what kind of things about IBM does she need to know exactly? I could tell you loads.....but it's probably not the stuff she wants to hear!

I could post you loads about managers but won't
lol
Dunno what to tell you really, they're the biggest IT company in the world mainly supplying to businesses now really after selling off the home PC business last year. Can't remember the name of the company that took it but you'll be able to find that on the web and you'll find out the figures they sold it for.
The P series machines are doing very well at the moment, they're all AIX based. AIX is IBM's version of unix. The P5's are very popular along with P690's for seriously large companies.
Sam Palmisano (I can't spell his name) is the top man for the company - they might ask her that I suppose.
Ummm - they do all the IT for Wimbledon.....
I could list some of the companies they do support for??
I could go on for ages dude - but it might be useless as IBM is a huge company and she might not even be doing anything to do with the computing side of things.
If she needs anything more directly you'll have to let me know......I'll be happy to help. I should be logged on for another hour and a half ish - working..... - boooo!!!

Was the 60`s
I did this mate.
I had an interview at one of their big offices near Winchester. I went for a techy position with the plan of working up so I rigged my A Level results based on their not so hard to work out online application form. I got to first round interview with 49 other tech wanabbies.
For an interesting bit of trivia which I intended to quote should I have made the afternoon session. The guy who created IBM, was unqualified from memory. I was actually going to say to the interviewer that it shouldnt be soley paper based but practical as well. I wouldnt have taken a job under false pretences as it isnt worth it but interview stage I thought was worth it.
In the morning session, they did the usual tour etc and split us into teams of 6 who had to work on a mini project in a room with 3 observers taking notes. My mate had got in during the previous year intake and is still there as an accountant so gave me some tips. You essentially have to divvy up the roles and complete a task in a time frame, however no one thinks to alocate a clock watcher to demonstrate time planning. I allocated this to myself which went down well from the feedback provided.
I did a lot of research for this job but threw it all out about a year ago I think. I really wanted the job as a spring board position.
Best of luck to her mate.

Basically mate - it's the U.S. way of working too, if she shows she's prepared to throw her all in to it, working all hours god sends, that will go down very well indeed - especially in a manager position, she'll never get a minute to herself.
They love the word flexibility - which basically means you do everything they want, when they want it.
I regually get mails from my manager at 10 - 11 at night on most days, she tells me she does 15 hour days easily and I can believe it.....oh andmanagers can't cliam cash back for those hours either. I can
Who wants to be a gaffer eh! Quite happy fetching the tea......
