you read wrong

you really need to use a t5 2wd gearbox
might aswell remove the front diff,,, remove the drive shafts but keep the stub in the front hubs

but the 4wd front diff is part of the sump ..

so you need a 2wd sump aswell as the t5 box...

next question is the propshaft, wonder if they are the same length ??

cheers for the info, afriend of a friend has a 4x4 and really wants a rear hooker again but his 4x4 is good nic and wants to properly convert it, so i guess 2wd sump and hubs and t5 box is the best way too go?

you dont need 2wd hubs .. the suspension on the base of a 4wd is a lot sturdier.. then do as gareth said

driveshafts
diff
rear beam
prop
gearbox
sump (though not sure if its a necessity to change it)
exhaust (although it may still fit)

thats about all the bits you need from the 2wd

you will also need to find a suitable gearbox crossmember from somewhere iirc

i know, but think about it,youre gonna spend loads turning it into a 2wd,so why not get a 2wd and swap over any decent bits you like, then sell the 4x4,gotta be a cheaper option?

not necessary. a std t5 cross member and a length of 50mm box section is all that's needed to fit a t5 into a 4x4 shell, done it twice.

yes, the 2wd uses a thicker prop and driveshafts, along with a bigger diff

never thought of that although, i never attempted it myself. hot a mate who's doing a escos RWD, he managed to find a crossmember off a sierra that would do the job

You will need to change

Front x member
front hubs
front struts
steering rack
sump
oil pickup pipe
oil pump
gearbox
gearbox mounts
prop
and as said rear diff etc , but you can use the 4x4 if you want

Paul

I never changed the oil pump or pickup when putting a 2wd sump onto my engine

Only thing that needed adjusting was the piston spraybar feed for cylynders 1 and 2, then bend the nozzles into the correct place again. The sump then went on with no fuss

You cant put a 2wd oil pickup pipe onto a 4x4 oil pump

And bending the 4x4 pickup pipe isnt a good idea , i have seen many blown bottom ends after doing this

Gracy , I hope you have done it correctly or going round corners fast may lead to a rattle or 2

Paul - I didn't touch the oil strainer pick up pipe, just the piston spray bar pipe for cylynders 1 and 2, then aligned them correctly as to what they previously were.

we are only talking 2 or 3mm movement of the spraybar aswell, nothing critically major
