I need to get a special tool for removing the input shaft locking collar on the MT75 gearbox (2wd or 4x4, both the same nut) - its some large socket that is very deep, does anyone know where I can get one of these tools, apart from Ford who would charge a fortune

Box spanner won't be good Gareth - the socket needs to be 12 sided and not 6
I've searched on all the usual tool supplier webbys and can't find anything
Maybe, If i can get a normal 12 sided socket, get jiggy with the angle grinder, weld in some box section, and then weld the top onto that, I'll have a nice deep socket
The next question is, what size is the socket I need

It's about Ł50 from Ford IIRC.

Click services then special tool catalogue at the top.
Failing that, make one with a socket and a peice of scafolding tube!!

Daz - just been reading on Interford, its a 46mm socket, but you can remove the nut by tapping it round a bit then spinning it off by hand - should save me some money
Then the rest of the gearbox should just pop apart once the bolts holding the case together are undone, with a bit of luck

Dojj - just done a search on Interford - found all the pics of Tapp's tool (oooeer
)
With regards to removing the front case, which 5th gear bolt do you remove, and which one do you leave in?

there are 2 bolts that hold the reverse gear in place
one either side of the box halfs (front and rear)
let me go and get some pics of what i mean
if you undo both then it's a bit tricky to get it all back together again
and whatever you do DON'T take the gear selector locater thing apart, it's a right pain in the butt to get back together again, a mistake i learnt to regret

you want to remove only one of the bolts that are seperatly circled on the lower part of the box, i made the mistake of removing the bolts on the top too, not good
you'll also need to reset the perload on the countershaft
bloody hell fire man!!!! for some reason the forum is a little slow today but you seem to be quetioning everything before i've thought of the answers
