Ive checked the plugs after it just idling and No 2 plug is always SOAKED with fuel
i have swapped injectors around to see if its a leaky injector
nope
still the same plug being flooded
what could have an effect on the injector to overfuel other than the ECU????
cheers guys, all help is greatly appreciated.. slowly getting there

tried new plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm
Stu, my fuel pressures are
idle 41 psi
on boost in 2nd drops to 37 psi
on boost in 4th stays at 40-45 psi
dead pressure reg?

i havent mate, that bang on my list when i return to the garage tomorrow
thing is, it drives off boost fine
it only splutters when its reved whilst idling
and missfires under full load
fuel pressure is still low isnt it, a 1.7 bar esc cos shouldnt run 37 - 45 psi on boost
should it ?

ill deffo change the lead, see if it makes a diff.
time to change the pressure reg i think too
Stu , if the rail was welded whilst the pressure reg was still in situ.. this could well faff it up yes? thinh is, i cant see Martin overlooking that

Its a possibility but like you say, i dont see Martin overlooking that as its a simple circlip to remove it and hes nobodys fool
If it has failed then it may be for no other reason than its 12yrs old.
Fuel pressure should be at 3.5bar +-0.2bar with the car idling and the vac pipe REMOVED.
BWith the vac pipe refitted it should drop approx 0.5bar although that figure isnt important. What is of VITAL importance is that the fuel presure rises with a 1:1 ratio for boost.
So:
ZERO on boost gauge = 3.5bar
0.5bar boost = 4.0bar
1.0bar boost = 4.5bar
ETC ETC ETC.....
Please take note Dave, if this is wrong the engine WILL melt.
Reasons for lack of fuel pressure.
Split / leaking FPR signal hose / dying reg / crushed fuel line / dying pump / dying wiring.
Thats it top of my head at 8:30am.. brew time

thanks stu, much appreciated
i found this by geert in the technical forums
https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=57488
sounds like my exact prob so ill change the press reg. I did text martin and he said the reg wasnt taken out as the welding wasnt close to the reg itself so wouldnt suffer heatsoak.. looks like its deffo dead though
now lastly.. any reccomendations on a replacement fuel reg? std? or geert reckons he has a higher pressure one from an audi

If your sender isnt next to the reg then as he says, it wont suffer much heat, they are obviosly designed to take some decent heat given they are bolted to a YB
Std is generally fine actually but there are aftermarket ones to run slightly higher, bear in mind that more fuel pressure = more fuel everywhere, so your map will be rich and ideally need remapping.
