Default Mondeo V6 engines

I just wondered what people's thoughts are on the Mondeo V6 engine. There seems to be a lot out there with head gasket problems. Is there an inhierant fault or is it just down to poor maintenance. I'd like your views as I am about to buy one.

depends on which engine yu mean

there are 2 the 2.5 and the 3 litre

have found that the 3 litre is a lot better

however having has a 2.5 V6 Mk1 mondy i know what they are like

If a head gasket goes it can be very expensive depending on how quickly it is caught.

Also there is a problem with oil surge or lack of oil surge on teh main crank

Beacuse of the layout of the engine an dthe oil feed only being 1 way on a right hander if you dont look after yur oil etc it can mean that engine oil does not go to all points of the crank and the shells say bye bye if this is repeated alot.

The circumstances have to be just right or wrong for the above to happen but it can happen

overall tho the noise is wonderful and if teh induction and exhaust is sorted correctly there is no need for a music system as the noise form the engine in front of you and teh exhausts behind you just bring a smile to your face

Yes it is the 2.5 that I have found several examples of head gasket problems. Got to admit though that the performance and sound are brill

Waterpump failue is the cause of head gasket normally, upgrade to the metal pump (the voice of experience on this LOL)

best way to look at it, if the head gasket goes and its gona cost loads to fix, ud be better off buying a new engine, you can pick them up for £100

What size engine can you buy for £100 ???

and where?

im just about to drop a crappy 2.0ltr black top in mine but reading that msg just stopped me in my tracks! lol

my engine has cost me around £400 so far, and still incomplete ....

its clean, has only done around 40,000 miles,

but seriously, if you know where to get decent mondy engines from for that cheap or for a few hundred, please tell me, before i make the mistake of dropping that flat lump in (which is better that the even flatter lump i have in already! lol)

thanks
