Hi,
I reckon you would be better off fitting a pinto engine in place of the DOHC piece of junk. It would be more reliable for sure.

These were never a good engine even when new and Ive never heard one running nice.

Mike.

ive heard the 2l dohc is just a pinto with a twin cam head. is that true? i also read in a burton book that they are good at being torquey cruisers. i like lo down grunt and was hoping to rebuild it and mod it for more torque. i like the fact you can tune a pinto for 9000rpm but what are the differences an benefits of fittin a pinto?

the I4 isnt a pinto bottom end its the same bottom end used for the 16v rs2000 escorts, I have seen pleanty of these engines with taxi milage on, they arent a terrible engine but are nothing to write home about.

if you get it out of the galaxy it won't fit

but if you want something to play around with and can collect it, there's one sitting in my back garden you can have

when you say you "broke" your engine, what exactly did you "break"?
if it's the timing chain you'll have 99% for sure cracked no1 main

as for engines, they aren't nothing to write home about, but they give brilliant fuel economy if you drive with a light right foot (76mpg on the motorway at 50mph anyone? ) and have lots of grunt from the word go (as far as grunt goes, most of the torque is there most of the way through the rev range) and my 130brake boggo stock engine was quicker down the straight at silverstone last year than my mates 140+brake with bits done to it engine
it's a much better engine than the pinto as far as standard goes, but as for making more power, you need to spend shed loads of money and for the same price to get yourself near 150 brake you might as well slot in the RS2000 16V version
and for more power just go V6 (but you need to budget for the fuel bills as well)
