when you say you "broke" your engine, what exactly did you "break"?
if it's the timing chain you'll have 99% for sure cracked no1 main

as for engines, they aren't nothing to write home about, but they give brilliant fuel economy if you drive with a light right foot (76mpg on the motorway at 50mph anyone? ) and have lots of grunt from the word go (as far as grunt goes, most of the torque is there most of the way through the rev range) and my 130brake boggo stock engine was quicker down the straight at silverstone last year than my mates 140+brake with bits done to it engine
it's a much better engine than the pinto as far as standard goes, but as for making more power, you need to spend shed loads of money and for the same price to get yourself near 150 brake you might as well slot in the RS2000 16V version
and for more power just go V6 (but you need to budget for the fuel bills as well)
