for all mot testsers and good machanics
Hi all, my 1st post (hello)
basically i have my MOT next month, and i have this slight probelm. my cat sometimes smells of eggs, well quite often. it doesnt ratle or anything just smells foul. seems to happen mostly when in high revs too. oh yeh, it also comes from the back box not through the vents. Any ideas? tried sum cat cleaner dont think it worked
also, if i left it like this will it get through an mot? or is it likely to fail on emissions due to the eggy smell?
cheers

the egg small is pretty normal m8, dont worry about it, some cars are worse that others though, i'd say if it does smell of eggs , then the cat IS working and hence should pass the emmisions no problem.
The egg smell is due to the chemical reaction caused by the gasses in the exhaust being broken down by the cat. It's 100% normal. Usually they settle down after a few miles. The hotter the cat gets, the better they neutralise the emissions from the engine.
youll find many cars will smell like that when you pull up at the lights where a trail of your exhaust follows you. normal, as above. no offense but i thought that was common knowledge with new age cars. manufacturers started fitting them in J reg.
