Default s2 rst exhaust

I just fitted a full mongoose exhaust to my s2 turbo. I bought it second hand and is in not bad cond apart from a few scrapes. It sounds pretty good at tick over and when driving the car easy but seems a very loud when at motorway speeds etc. I don't have anything to compare it to so was wondering if this was normal or is my exhaust f****d? By the way wots the best exhaust for an rs turbo anyway?

Cheers

i was told the magnex with the 3inch tailpipe was restrictive so i took it off and put a full mongoose on. sounds great at tickover but a little noisey under hard driving. i think the quality and fit of magnex is better. can't have everything the way you want i guess.

I've got a Scorpion. I still have a Mongoose aswell but its redundant at the moment.

Scorpion arent that bad are they. I thought they just dont give as good results as a mongoose when you get to silly power levels.

To be honest i dont think theres anything in the sound, the both sound amazing and loud . The mongoose was on the orion in the siggy, and only has a 2.5 inch tail pipe, i got the Scorpion for the 4inch tail pipe when the engine went into the cabby, paid Ł150 for it and it was literally brand new.

One less joint than the Mongoose and it definately was a better fit.

its the same boresize backbox as std,are std exhausts not restrictive then?
i got told my exhaust was restricting me from makin more, the tuner didnt even know what kind it was,but it was a scorpion, also said about my mates scorpion which again tuner didnt know it was a scorpion,he just said "your exhaust is restricting the power, what kinds it?".its only common sense that the same bore as std is gonna restrict it no matter if its s/s or not

There are different scorpions. U can tell if it's restirctive by shining a torch down the tailpipe. U can see that on some the bore size drops considerably - they are worse than a std system. A std system doen't pose a restriction at 200hp - maybe higher but ive not tested it.

The best off the shelf system IMO is the 3inch bore Magnex, with3.5 inch tailpipe. It's quieter than most systems, and being a 3inch bore, good for power.

My favourite zorst is the Power Engineering item in my Avatar. They are VERY VERY quiet at mway speeds - just what i like, but others dont. It burbles nice on idle, is incredibly well made, and looks the bollocks.

ive heard this about the scorpion about there being 2 kinds, the old is restrictive but the new ones arent,i had an old one which was restrictive and my mates just bought a erst with a brand new one on it and its just the same, does anyone have a scorpion on there car that does not have the restrcitive backbox on it,post a pic til i see it,and no cut out baffle pics either

also does magnex do a 3" bore,im sure its the mongoose that does the 3" bore for the rs turbo, never seen a magnex one listed anywhere and 3" bore are no good for power unless youve got enough power where its needed

How many joins does a full mongoose system have for a series 2? Mine has three. Two at the back and one in the middle, which I think I will have to weld as it seems quite short and easy to pull apart.

std rst system is 2 1/4 bore

any s/s sytem is 2 1/2 bore

mongoose u can get 3 inc bore as tube tork as well magnex u cant

I know of 5 rst running well over 250bhp with out any trouble with scorpions on

i have done back to back testing with the zorsts and there is no diff what so ever only with the 3" bore u will see any different

imo magnex fit the best and have a flexi pipe in them, and rest dont come with them which is a shame .magnex as well have the same size bore in the back boxs so do scorpions. it only mongoose are a pain in the ass to fit but are a lot noiser on the motorway as its back box has a bigger bore in it.as with the scorpion u get a nice rore when coming on boost scorpion is not restrictive unit u get to about 270-280 bhp when u look at the likes off sunny tim c&b and TT all got cars over 300bhp proven all got 3" bore zorst a lot of people take the baffles out to make it flow better and make it louder

your correct there but not in the backbox its not, where it counts

what kind of testing did you do with the zorsts then?quite interested to know how you could test them back to back, when were the tests done?
i for one would interested to see the results of this test you done

you need 25psi of boost to make 250bhp,i would say thats a tad much for that bhp, youd prob make the same bhp with a tad less boost with a less restrictive exhaust
its not all about top end bhp, same applies to the full rev range
also at which rpm do you make this bhp, would prob push the power up the rpm a bit more
still if your happy, then thats what counts

The car has a very nice power delivery and torque curve and is also still on KE-Jetronic whilst still using a stage 2 Hybrid T3 and not a .48 exhaust housing in sight.

As long as the car continues to perform I'm a very happy man indeed
