Diamond white indeed!!!
Does anyone know which white Ford used on the sapphire cosworth's in 88/89?
I thought it would be diamond white....should have checked first really. At the weekend I sorted out the tiny bit of rust on the rear offside wheel arch then painted the rear quarter panels both sides, all around the inside of the boot, under the boot lid etc etc. In the garage it looked spot on I was happy as the back of the car was looking sweet.
Anybody see where i'm going with this?
When I took the car out into the day light...oh my god, it looked as if i'd sprayed the car piss yellow!?! I know Diamond white is quite yellow anyway but this takes the piss! I've cut it back and it looks a bit better, but the more I look at it, the more its bugging me damnit!
Any ideas which white the car might be? I know its on original paint....

Ford only used Diamond white on all there fords cosworth and the rest mate. How old is the paint? If it,s been standing around for any length of time the yellow pigment will seperate and make the white more yellow when applying it. Best course of action mate is to buy freshly mixed diamond white. This happened to me once, but i had just resprayed the fecking whole car!!!!
Hope this helps mate.

You need to take the wing mirrors with you to the paint supplyer as they will need to tint it. You should try getting moonstone blue if you think whites is bad
I'm having the same trouble with mine, I've sprayed the rear end Diamond white which was darker than the rest, so I took the front part of the sideskirt and ended up with Mazda Performance White, I've sprayed one of the front doors and that doesn't match very well either now.
Now contemplating a complete re-spray in Diamond white.

i may be in a dream world, but doesnt it say on the chassis/vin plate what the colour code is?
i remember my brothers S2 was Radiant Red P9 or something like that, isnt that enough for Ford or someone else to mix up a colour?
(i cant remember where i know that from, it may not have been on the plate at all, but i sure do remember getting the mirrors and surrounds painted and saying the paint code!)
and are you sure the rest of your motor hasnt been painted before you started on it? (previous owners etc? could have been paint damaged before you bought it)
(tell me to shut up if im talking crap, i enjoy reading the posts here, something new everyday!

Are you the guy who runs the Hampshire RSOC?
If its the orginal paint from the Ford factory you have to take into account the sun bleaching the colour no matter how well looked after it was. The shell I picked up was resprayed about 18 months ago apparantly, but when I put my boot lid, bonnet and front doors on the paint was too dark.
Sometimes you can get the paint to blend in so you don't notice it, but I did find that my Tasmin Blue saph was a pain trying to get the colour to blend even when we had the closest match possible.

Hi I own a diamond white sapphire cosworth. I thought it would be a good idea to get the rust in the rear ach done over the winter. Took it to the body shop, the chap put a new wheel arch in and did a lovely job. When I picked it up I was very happy. The next day washing and polishing the car I wasnt so happy!! The rear quarter was a different colour, took the car straight back to the spray shop. In the spray booth it looked fine. The chap explained all about the different shapes of diamond white and paint fade and over polishing over the years. As a good will gesture he agreed to blow in more of the car. I think you no where I am going with this. To cut a long story short, the only part of the car that now hasnt been painted is the roof. At least it all looks one colour now. An expensinse wheel arch LOL!!!!!!!!
There are a good 10+ shades of diamond white, greyer, whiter, bluer, reder, etc etc. Different paint manufacters same colours will also be different
You must also take into account nearly 20yrs of weathering and you will then see why white and red are two of the worst colours to match.
Matalics, pearls, and micas are easier most of the time as you always blend,
You can base and clear solid colours with blending but then the laquer you use must be CLEAR as most manufacters clear laquer isn't, also this will alter further colour changes with future weathering.
Paint manufacters will only match colours in daylight (natural light) Park under a halogen street light and it will look different again.
So a painters job is not just good application, It is the first thing you see and
winge about but is almost impossible to get perfect edge to edge colour match. I spent 20yrs in body and paint and it is a thankless task.

Yes it did! Was not very happy, but give the painter his due he tried to put things right and as I say he ended up painting the whole of the car. I had to pay, but not the full amount!!! As Ozcos says it must be hard, the painter puts all that time in prepping and painting the car, only to be greeted by an unhappy customer. I that my hat of to you mate!!
