Default Timing belt question.....

I have just replaced my headgasket with a group A item.

I have been told there is a mistake in the Ford technical manual on setting up the timing marks...

Could somebody just verify the correct marks to use on the bottom pulley and distributor drive pulley?.

Also when you set the rotor arm to the distributor mark - is it the centre of the arm to the mark or the leading edge?.

In the event of you not having a tensioning tool handy is a 90 degree twist on the longest section ok, or is there a better way?

I guess you can never be too carefull, so i am asking the resident experts!

Regards

Andy

use the lug to the left of the vee markings on the bottom pulley to find 16 degrees btdc,
the centre of the rotor arm should be lined up to the mark on the body of the dizzy,
the markers on the cam pulleys should face each other and also line up with the cam cover gasket,
hope this helps

ps, have a look in the tech section, you'll find a diagram that explains all this,
it's either 1 or 2 pages back

Thanks guys!

Will be in the garage tonight sorting it.

The spec sounds exactley the same as the manual which is reassuring!

Do you use a tool to set the tension of the belt ?

Regards,

Andy

i believe the lug to the left of the vee groove is to set the 'cam' timing to 16% btdc, in the pic it shows the 'ignition' timing as being the vee groove, u can check this once engine is running with a timing light and adjust accordingly,
good luck

the v groove is 16 degrees btdc...forget about the groove and as in first pic above ,set it to the left hand edge(looking from front)of the lug for tdc of no 1

As for tension, i normally do what you said, turn longest part 90 degrees.
