Default how can i reduce valve overlap using vernier pulleys.....

just bought a nice set of cam pulleys for my zetec turbo and wondering if anyone has had a play with the cam timing on a zetec turbo with 130ps cams and can report there findings here!

i have been told that i need to reduce valve overlap to stop the hot exhaust gasses going back in to my cylenders (causing det etc..)because my cams are for n/a use and can be helped with a set of pulleys

so whats best advance the exhaust cam or play with the inlet cam or a bit of both?

cheers!

You will have to try it and see.

Does your car have a cam sensor on either of the cams (you havent said what management you are on or anything like that)? cause if it does, you may find you need to move the other one.

As a general rule though, id sooner move them both a bit than one of them a lot.

Also depends if you want to move the torque up the rev range or down it as generally speaking the more retarded the cam timing is the further up the rev range you will go, so dialling out the lift on overlap by retarding only will move the power up, and dialling it out by just advancing the other cam will move it down the range, so if you are otherwise happy with the engine, thats why i would initially opt for a bit of both instead.

i am running omex 600 ecu with 9.5:1 c/r 82 lamda on boost and all sites mapped just before det occours up to 12 psi (where the actuator is set)

i have wideband guage in car and EGT guage set of stethascopes and a laptop! so im ready to map around the cam changes

my car goes pretty flat after 5.6k rpm and i think its down to the overlap of the n/a cams

its running a t34 so i wouldnt of thought it would run out of steam that quick and holds the boost ok through the rev range
