Default Ball joint snapped on my corsa..... nice mess! (Pics)

Went to York Dragway yesterday. Mint day, got a 4.73 0-60 and a 13.36 1/4 mile (might of done better but they didn't have all the timing slips as there computer is operated by a hamster.) Not bad for York. Might slip a decent time down pod now.

Anyway went down Notts last night, was on a duel carrageway, wound it on in second a bit, went to go past a new Fiesta ST, put it in third and BANG. Instantly the car locks up, I could of gone anywhere. To my right a rather hard looking central reservation, to my left a car.

Thank fuck (and god knows how when you look at the wheel) it just went straight, then I ushered it over to the side of the road. It'd of been a major accident if it hit anything. Car would of been properly fucked, as would I probably.

Cops were straight on my case, I was a bit of a cunt to him at first, then when I calmed down he was sound. He really apreciated the car for what it was, and he is a fellow 'Ringer lol. Talked about the place and general shit. Also about how lucky I was!

Anyway car is still a bit fucked, but it will repair, and more importantly me and my mate are ok The car will be back to race another day

Heres the pics....

bad luck tim.saw you running at york yesterday.thought i saw you do a 4.73 to 60?
i should be out at the next york with a phase 3 cav turbo running 2wd and an lsd. plus the nitrous as well

the car has allready done a 14.1@108 with its previous owner at york and 146mph in 1.25miles at elvington.

My mates missed that one! Even better time!

Do you know if I did better than a 13.36? There were not timing slips for all the runs!

Looking forward to seeing your Cav! Should be close, the diff was the best thing I ever bought

When you going, I'll try and get mine repaired for then

Shit news on your car mate. Glad you got it stopped safely though. Would the breakage have anything to do with the amount of power your car has over standard or just one of those things?

Yes quite a lot to do with the power! But I'd of never expected one to break like this one has! And I've of expected it to go on the other (short shaft) side. I'll be changing both sides, and investigating making it a lot stronger.

Bryan, those terminal speeds are the same as what I get, so the car has the potential to match my times easily!

Why do you think it should have snapped on the short side? I'd have thought the opposite. Fookin scary thing to happen.

Until recently I didn't have an LSD, so the short shaft side will of took a lot more hammer. When it comes off the car I'll take a pic of how its broken, quite scary!

What LSD have you got?
I went in a Race spec 106GTI with a proper LSD (Quaife IIRC) Pretty sure it was a plate type as opposed to an ATB, but the difference between that and my RST one is unreal

I think all Quaife diffs are ATB. If it was a plate diff it will of been something like a Tran-X or Gripper?

Mines a Quaife

might be a while before i get decent times tim.been used to an auto bmw for the last two years and a 4wd twin turbo sierra for three years before that.
i don't think 5000rpm and dump the clutch would get me anything but a smoking pair of front tyres

imo your bottom ends did not break because of power i have never seen another vauxhall break one because of power and there are lots of vauxhalls putting down more power

imo they were worn and the power just helps to finish off a part that needed changing

awsome times thou
