Auto Express.

Its got a Volvo S60R under pinning.
Still using the 2.5 5cyl from the ST but with an uprated turbo minimum of 300bhp.
Also has electronically adjustable dampers.
Limited to 155mph
and 0-60 of ~5secs.

The problems remain that it would be an expensive vehicle and the market for such a machine is quite small - thats why we havent got it on any new car release schedules at the moment. Having said that, theres so much enthusiasm for an RS model, it would be hard to abandon it completely.

If it's anything like the Focus RS release schedule, you'll have to wait another 3 years before it comes out, so you might as well buy an ST.

What sort of price would you expect to pay for the RS model as the ST is about Ł17,495.00 - Ł20,095.00

TWATS...

ive spoken to my main ford dealer mate and dont hold your breath, 2008 at the earliest.. and hope it pushes out more than 300bhp, focus ST can do 260 easily already with a chip and exhaust and thats only just come out..

another RS thats a marketting tool and nothing to do with motorsport, means no more that XR or ST these days

Ford can't afford to ignore the RS brand IMO. I feel this will happen but not for a while and will more likely be over 25k.

Bring it on

I was thinking today though how Ford technologys lagged behind. For instance :-

1987 Ford RS Cosworth - 204bhp

1987 BMW M5 - 286bhp

2006 Proposed Focus Cossy - 300bhp

2006 BMW M5 - 507bhp

Why ? Things move on, i mean even regular diesels are pushing 200bhp now easily, come on Ford we should be into 400bhp at least now!

You can't compare cars with such different price brackets!

Don't get me wrong, I'd love the RS brand to keep on going for years to come, but....

So basically, at the moment it's a loss leader, and in today's car market, ford aren't going to sign off a car that won't make money.
VW have done it out of spite with the Veyron (different kettle of fish for sure), but no car maker can afford this sort of stunt these days.
