Default M42 Users, friendly notice...

Had this sent via email today, and thought anybody using the M42 might be keene to know this little piece of information

Subject: M42 Speed cameras - you may find this helpful

The M42 Active Traffic Management system goes fully live in 1st April, for the safety of your driving license and bank account please be aware.

Between junction 3 (M40) and junction 7b (M6 second junction) there are NINETY SIX GATSO style cameras, mostly located between junctions 5 and 6 (Solihull and NEC), there are 8 per gantry.

If you thought that was bad, there are now (live on 1st April) TWO HUNDRED AND SEVENTY SIX digital specification cameras which measure your average speed over this stretch of motorway, and they have a two mph tolerance. You won't see a flash off these, just the rattling of the letter box when the fine comes through.

NB There is also provision for variable speed limits on this stretch using the overhead gantry signs.

Happy motoring.

Maybe - maybe not mate. You ever driven along that stretch ? It's a feckin' nightmare for cameras.............and eight per gantry is feasible seeing as there's 4 lanes and on that stretch (which to drive must take about 10-15 minutes depending on the variable traffic speeds) you easily pass under 12 gantry's..............

So maybe a joke, but knowing that road I'd be more inclined to believe it.

The gatsos are there but only in operation with the variable speed limit signs. Just like the M25. (I.e. if there is no special speed limit in place then the Gatsos are turned off)
