Nearing my engine re-build and just wondered if it is necassary to prime the oil pump after replacing it? I'm guess ing i could chuck some oil down the pick-up pipe and spin the oil pump drive with my whizzy gun??

Ive heard of some people running a bit oil through the pump like how you suggested,personally i just pre-fill the oil filter and wind the engine over(by starter) with no plugs in for a bit.

 

i spin the oil pump drive shaft up with a cordless drill and deep socket and check for oil at the top end
