Just been in my garage to re-fit my cranshaft and all was going well until i torqued down the con rods.
No3 only when torqued to 60nm locks up the crank
All the shells are replacement .25 overs the same size as came out and the rods are in the same order as when removed so what can be wrong

Did you test fit con rods to crank to check they rotate OK without crank in block prior to re-build ?
This will determine if it is con rod tight on crank or piston tight in bore
Better find out now than at 7500 rpm on track !!

If i slacken the con rod bolts a little on No3 the crank turns fine.
SPADGE : One of the suppliers that sent my shell, were in the correct packaging +25, but once I opened the packaging, I saw that the shells were stamped STD on the shells......... Don't want to name and shame as it appears that W--d--rd were supplied a whole consignment like this from the supplier, so not really their fault. (This was about six months ago) So check the shells, as it's stamped on the back of the shell..........maybe your supplier has the same problem and hasn't been made aware yet.

couple of things...
have you only fitted the centre bearing cap,or all of them?
did you fit them with arrows facing front?
the shells are fitted dry to the block, and then smeared with oil once fitted, same with the cap,fit the shell dry and then lubricate it (and the crank journal) before fitting. the grooved bearings go in the block, and the smooth in the cap.
Are the dowels still fitted ?
tightening torque is around 95nm (i suspect you already know that) but lubricate the thread and under the bolt head with oil before torque-ing them up,and do it in one clean movement.

Thanks for the advice fellas but i know all you have told me already and had done everything correct bar one small thing
Con rods numbered 1 to 4 from front to back ok!
Con rod caps numbered 4 to 1 from front to back
In the words of Delboy 'what a plonker' lol
All correct now and spinning over nicely

although i've never actually tried to fit them 'wrongly' , i'm pretty sure they will go in either way.
the groove is there for lubrication so needs to be correct, might be worth double checking.

Will check everything again tomorrow mate but i am pretty sure the bearings will only go one way due to the indentation in them. Could be wrong but will check anyway! Cheers mate
