I've got a mild steel paperweight I made when I was at school which I want to keep in good condition from a sentimental point of view.
Unfortunately it has a couple of deep gouges 1-2mm deep, 10mm long, in it from when It got dropped when I moved House. I tried filling it like car bodywork with filler and then repainting it but the filler always falls out after a while.
Is there any metal welding wire that can be melted with a blow torch to fill the hole with a blob of metal for a better repair????
I've heard of welding wire that has flux in it to flow the molten metal. Would this work???
I've considered just filling it with electrical solder but the finished metal is quite soft.
Any Ideas???

Fill it with lead. You can melt it into any shape.
Other than that weld it as said above and shape it with a file and sand paper.
Alot of work but you have your reasons.

That’s good advice and exactly what I would go with as well - lead filling it would be a good option that is unless you have and can use a TiG welder properly. IMO you'll probably end up with quite a mess with a MiG welder, TiG is so much more controllable as you can apply heat and filler separately; it's also a finer more precision form of welding. TBH I’m not a big fan of MiG (although it certainly does have its advantages - mainly speed) but I love TiG welding.
