Its a GT28R but iwth a 76mm compressor wheel by the looks of it.

Im guessing its the fact the compressor is large compared to the exhaust and hence you are likely to see high exhaust back pressure which is an issue? (as that will reduce engine effiency)

I thought that when I first saw it. I'd hazzard a guess that it would be unsuitable for a 2.0L petrol engine then?

Seems it's also known has a GT25/40....

GT2540: IMO, this turbo is a big piece of shit. This is my opinion as I
haven't tried one. But, looking at the maps, it looks like a pile of shit.
I have heard anecdotal evidence from people I respect that it works pretty
well, but I wouldn't put one my car and find out. There is too big of a
size mismatch between the 53.8mm turbine and the 76mm compressor. Also, it
is insane to run a .64A/R on the turbine given the flow capacity of the
compressor. This turbine and this compressor are both really good on their
own, but they are worthless together. Total mismatch. Save your money.
Not a popular turbo!

Doesnt seem a bad compressor at all, it will flow 3 - 450 bhp at up to 2bar of boost without dropping too poorly in efficiency and stays quite well out of the surge area when doing so. I would say its a turbine trim issue personally, but the maps there are not necessarily correct as the names change when you enlarge them so its hard to say, but its certainly a large trim for a GT28 Turbine.

It cant be. The naming convention wont allow it.

ATP Turbo list it as a 'Garrett GT2876R (aka GT25/40R)'. I think the 25/40 comes from the HKS GT25/40 as per http://www.horsepowerinabox.com/HPIAB2/prod16.htm

Turbo naming conventions are sooo confusing
