Default A word of warning for those going to Germany !

Went skiing in Austria last weekend so the lads & i flew to Munich & hired a car to get get there

Driving down the autobahn in said rented Merc 220 estate - outside lane at about 100mph or so.
Looks in side mirrors as back is full of luggage & see a 7 series BM coming up on me FAST
Just about to indicate into middle lane & watch him start to moveto undertake me
Just stayed where i was at same speed as he came past on the inside doing at least 130mph.

3 - 4 miles on all brake lights go on hazzard warning lights & every one is stopping.
On the right a car (focus i think) has hit the verge, rolled, flipped, slid & generally broken up as it came to rest on a slip road.
Driver looked unconscious as people were rushing to his aid.

200yds further up you guessed it the same BM is parked up next to the central reservation with half the rear bumper missing

My guess is that he tried the same stunt again & met this other guy pulling out

So watch your backs as its even easier to miss in a RHD vehicle

Sorry mate... but why were you in the outside lane at 100mph if the lane inside you was empty????

Doesn't excuse him driving like a twat and injuring someone else but incorrect lane discipline is bollox. Especially if it was an unrestricted Autobahn...

I wasn`t totally clear you goat
I was happily passing cars at a reasonable pace.

As said was keeping an eye behind me too

& not sure about unrestricted one min the signs say 120 the next 130 then 120 with line through it

Fair to say i was in the top few % for speed

Guyz, please remember that certain parts of the German Autobahn are derestricted and that we drive like madman's then.

Get out of the way if you do NOT need to be in the fast lane asap.
100mph is very slow there on that lane.

The Germans have destricted sections of Autobahns due to their very strict driving discipline - Sounds to me like you didnt pull over when you should have causing him to have to go round you.

He was probably so shocked he hit the Focus - you're 100% guilty. I'd send you down for a 10 stretch!

i have had a couple of things happen to us
coming back from langraph car show i was in front of convoy leading the way overtook lorie and looked behind me and there was a merc only mm off my bumper then out accelerated him up 2 about 120 then moved over he passed me and stuck the finger up i being laid back ignored him and carried on driving he was tailgating everthing in front acouple of miles up the road he had tailgated a lorrie that was stopped thus writing off his merc
i slowed down and stuck the finger up and laughed
anothe time i was doing around 160mph on the autobann and heared a funny noise out my car at the back
checked my side mirrors and could not se nothing slowed a bit and noise went so eaccelerated and noise came back but even loader turned my head to look back due to not having rear view mirror and fuck me there was a super bike stuck to my rear bumper moved over and the bike passed and rider put thumb up and shot off in the distance
just be carefull but it is not as bad as driving in britian in my experiance
thanks jc

It's really bad idea to be on left lane anywhere in Europe when you're not going PROPERLY fast. Generally even people driving at 200+km/h change to right side at every opportunity.

Sounds about right

Are you sure it isnt legal to do that. You can legally undertake here and it is damn scary. I dont know the road rules for germany though.

You're lucky then that you didn't try countries where they drive in a tryly foolish way. Germany is pretty nice place to drive. A little anoying at times but if youkeep to the rules nothing happens.

Being in left lane is driving offence by the way.

you just have to be aware that, particularly on deresricted sections, there will always be somebody else wanting to go faster than you and it is their civil right to do so (freier fahrt fuer freier buerger).

if you do not move out of the way quickly enough, you can expect that they will move very closely behind you, as that is the accepted driving culture there and the way to show that you should move over to let a faster car through.

just be aware that it's not poxy uk, and that you should expect something to be coming up behind you at any speed (in excess of 150mph is not uncommon ), not just a little bit over 70mph, so do not move out a lane if doing so will mean slowing down something coming from behind. it's the same rules as uk, just without the speed limit which means that the speed differential is higher so you have to take more care before pulling out in somebody elses way.

dangerous - reyland accidents happen. You never seen it. And you were on wrong lane against the law, common sense and reason.

Anyway I don't see any reason to be wary of autobahn or normal German roads, pretty law abading nation and carefull drivers most of them. I'm bored to death on german roads with them observing all those limits
