Default BMW M3 in a compact ..... any ideas??

Hey folks. iv got a mate of mine wanting to put a M3 engine in a bmw compact 38ti. he thinks its gonna be kinda straight forward but i didnt seam to think so. he was plannin to use the standard 1.8 box. surly this cant take the power of the M3 block. iv also hear of folk changing the rear axle when doin this conversion. what bout diffs and shafts etc?? anyone know of someone whos done this? any help would be much appreciated

I know a few tech who work for elms bmw in cambridge and one owns a 1.8 ti compact i shall speak to them tomorrow on the subject.

I know of someone who has put the latest M3 lump into the new mini and kept it rwd

You mean swapped it to RWD, the new Mini's are FWD!

Seen it done useing m3 box with std rear diff,held up fine as far as i know

Didn't Hartge or someone carry out conversions like this on the original E36 style compacts? No idea what work was involved though!

Well i assumed the m3 box would need to be used but he is plannin to use the standard ti box. i just cant see it workin.

A couple of years ago there was always a Compact with M3 engine at the Ring, was Silver/Blue completely stripped out and an absolute weapon!

Would be a cool conversion!

my mate has done it and its fricking lethal, wheels spin in fourth apparently
the lad who done it for him dropped a 3.2 Evo engine and box straight in and it looks as if BMW made the that way,awesome conversion,nowt looks out of place.
He even put the interior in it as well and the brakes n stuff
