A custom model has the 'Custom Pack' fitted mate...

I.e. Electric windows, Sunroof, Open rear Quarter windows, Bronze tinted windows...

Cant remember if thats the lot, but will definately have some of the above fitted

Yes mate, forgot that.............Dan, the S1's from 1986 had side repeaters, although mine is a very late 85 car and has them too

I hope im not

Theres a thread about this actually, aparently it was introduced for the 86 models although it appears it was introduced early onto some of the late 85's aswell.

Lol i was just about to take the piss out of you saying how ridiculous would that be to have side repeaters as an option, but i juist remembered rear seat belts were optional back then

Didn't think that side repeaters were specific to custom models for some reason!

I prefer them without!

Nah i suppose though they could of been but that apparently is the story behind it, same as the orions u dont really see the early ones of them with the repeaters.

I prefer them without too, less wiring, less to fail on the MO, and less things to go rusty

I thought it had something to do the law but i wasn't 100%, obviously that was when it became compulsory though, a lot of cars already had them before that.

Trust Ford to be behind the times hey!

Mind you, saying that, wasn't it the only FWD Turbo car on the market at the time!

No they make car stereo's mate

No seriously though, the Series 1 was the first FWD Turbo car, and they have such poor traction off the line.....

Thats only with development that is now getting on for 25-30 years old!

Gotta remember mate that everything was RWD ( ) in them days and I bet Ford were planning the FWD RST for a good few years before it made it into production

I have no idea on how many were made but to the best of my knowledge the NON customs fetch more because of the rarity of them

I believe so yes.........dont quote me though but im 99.9% sure. I should expect most people forking out for the top dog Series 1 Turbo would want a sunroof electrics etc. And going by the prices on eBay the non customs seem to go a little higher i don't think theres a lot in it though.

Yes mate, non custom models are early B Plate Series 1's ec, they have none of the above spec on them, I think to be honest it's the condition of the car these days that commands the money!

If you've got a rot box with a custom pack, and a clean non-custom (or vice versa) then which one would you go for!

P.s Are you thinking of selling, i'm looking at the mo... See my Sig! lol

These days condition is everything for a S1, irrespective of whether they are a custom or not, as has already been said. In this climate a non-custom won't command a price advantage over a custom............

There were only something like 100 or so non-customs sold IIRC..........not many people wanted windy windows, no sunroof etc. Even though they are rare, I have very little doubt they aren't worth more than a custom. As I said esrlier, the S1's are highly sought after now and a good one is a good one, whether it's a custom or not and will be worth strong money.

I hear conflicting stories Dan TBH.............I was always under the impression that just over 5000 were built, but I seem to remember somewhere very very recently that 8504 were made. TBH the best person to ask on here is 'rs shawn' who set up the S1 database. If anyone has a decent idea it would be him.

Yeah guess so mate, I'm with you on the 8504 figure though, rings a bell in my head for some reason

Think circa 8k was sales worldwide though, not just Uk

All S1's had opening rear quarters, not just the custom packed cars.

One big advantage of the non-custom cars is the fact they don't suffer from roof rot as bad as the custom cars. Ford didn't learn, and the S2's suffer just as badly.

Unsure of the numbers sold of non-custom models and of those in the UK only, but the figure of 8504 total cars sold worldwide is correct

Was rotted though so didn't get it!

40 bhp! I heard it was at least 60!

Was a shame as it's a nice straight car but rust had really taken hold of it, i've just not got the time or space to be able to restore anything else! Need a driveaway, use and abuse then love one if you know what I mean! lol

Pics are here my man! http://www.rs-mania.co.uk/forums/ind...showtopic=8991

Yeah he put it on just to see what would come of it cos they did a 1p listing day or something.

I met Kurt on here mate

Spot on bloke I must admit, told me the car used to belong to our old Dorset RSOC Chairman, just shocked that the guy would sell a car like this without disclosing all the bad points, he should know more than anyone being in the bloody RSOC!
