A bankers draft is basically as good as cash. Ask matey for proof that the bankers draft is logit from his bank??? With bankers drafts, he would have had to pay a fee for the bank to write one out for him, so get them (his bank) to right a receipt on headed paper

Hope this helps

They can be forged.

Personally I would make sure the deal is done during the banks opening hours and phone the issuing branch to check.

People do assume that a bankers drafts as good as cash but thats not actually the case. I know of 2 people that have accepted fake bankers drafts and lost quite a bit of money.

I always ask for the persons full name and the issuing branch. Then contact the bank and they should tell you if a bankers draft has been issued. If the potential buyer has a problem with giving you this information, then dont accept it.

Bankers draft's are not anywhere near as good as cash!

They can be forged as has been said, and belive it or not the bank can refuse them once 'presented'!

DEFO keep the car until the money has cleared, if the guy doesn't want to leave the cheque then you know somethings up!

As GurnE said. Get the seller to ring the issuing branch. Get the number from Directory enquiries. (NOT fromt he potential buyer as it could be his mate)

You may find they wont tell you the exact details. (amount & name etc) Just whether its genuinely issued from them.

I paid for the cossie with a bankers draft. I just went to the bank with the seller and even though the bank had closed, he was able to get his mate to open the door and verify it was genuine even though he couldnt cash it until the morning.

If he is genuine, he won't mind accompanying your mate to the bank.

Be very wary of drafts...

When I bought my car, I paid part draft part cash, I preordered the draft at the local branch of my bank, to the seller, he came with me to collect the draft and then I went with him to deposit it at his bank... safest way IMO

the difference betweena bankers draft and a cheque is that the bank will not issue a draft unless there is cleared fund in the account, unlike a cheque.

a bankers draft takes the same amount of time to clear as a cheque, so you canpay for something with a draft walk away with it fone your bank and cancell it!!!!!!

so theyaredefinatly NOT as good as cash!!!!!
