Wood could be damp, causing the smoke?
Just a thought as it's cold and damp outside, our coal/logs/kindling etc is stored outside at work and gets rained on all the time

sorry mate, hope you understand our confusion though as most of us on here either have central heating OR there open fine is like mine and when it kicks out smoke we turn off the plug quick
i thought you ment open fire as in you was burning old shite in yer garden ect
for the love of god get with the times and understand that central heating is in most homes for a reason
open fires are only there to get the missus in the mood when shes on and im no expert but the neighbours knocking on the door to save you from a fire aint they way to do that
visit argos's website and but a real open fire,,,,,,,,,,,, that uses bulbs and led's ect aswell as keeping you warm

Carl you may well have the wrong type of 'granny' at the top of your chimney. A 'burly vent' at the top of chimney will draw more smoke upwards.
lol at the terms used...but hopefully you understand the lingo

Carl if has been working ok then it could be a change of wind direction. The pot may be fitted with wrong cowl or not even have 1. Is there plenty of draw?? ie with fire not lit hold a smoking/smouldering peice of paper outside of the grate,is the smoke pulled into the fire and up the chimney? also did hear we are getting low cloud tnite,so heavy air pressure may be stopping smoke exit pot
christ some people really dont like change
maybe try a calor gas heater to break you into the future stuff
if you dont reply straight away ill just assume youre running out of parafin and you are having issues seeing the keyboard

no seriously,....im not,....ive found 99% of comments very ammusing,....
its just that,....my room, my face, and my clothes are covered in smoke, and i have to open the windows to air the fucking place which defies the point of having any type of heating, and the smoke alarms keep going off,....
but,...in general, i am having a great time....

Opening windows causes smoke to belch out, slamming doors in the house does and as said blocked chimney.
Open fires are
new fangled heating is all well and good but you just cant beat an open fire.

so yes you can beat a open fire
its just the look thats the appeal,,,,,,,,, but a smoke fillled room kills that image
Yeah but you live in a smoke filled city so whats the difference
You can still have central heating with an open fire you know, its not like you have to light the fire by rubbing sticks.
Theres just summat about the look, the heat and the noise an open fire makes, and its not smokey when its running right, lol
