Cologne is a top night out m8
When i go to the ring in september we always stay in cologne rather than local as we do at easter as it is a bit to quiet twice for me.
Stay in the hotel ibis good central hotel and secure parking especially when there are 20 cossies trying to get out the underground car park.
Plenty of bars and some irish bars and some good clubs, food is really goos in most places and not to expensive. People are really friendly. Last year me and 2 lads went into some bar and the bar man gave us free drinks all night because we were english
Some top strip clubs and extras if required also lol.

oh, and Düsseldorf is also a very nice city to visit.
Especialy the old part called 'Altstadt' and the famous 'Köningsallee'
which has lot's of very nice (and expensive) shops like Versace,
Gucci, Burberry, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, ans much much more.
One more reason to visit Düsseldorf;
it's known as the city (apart from Frankfurt) with the most beautifull German ladys

Sweet keep the ideas coming!! Basicallt the Road trip is TO Amsterdam, then on the Way to Berlin (can stop of at another city before hit Berlin) Then of to Prague going to stop in Dresden for a day to have a look around too. Then leave prague, was thinking of going to Vienna but not sure now and might just go to another city in Germany. Then of To Brussels.
If you are interested in WW2 history, Colditz Castle isn't that far away from Dresden.
After WW2 the East Germans turned it into a loony bin but have been working over the last few years to reopen it as a tourist attraction. It was closed the day we went, but we still made it to the courtyard before they caught us.
As you drive into town you will see it up on the hill, and follow the signs for Schloss (sp?) The saddest thing is the way they've built all these crummy houses around the Castle itself, so it doesn't look so dramatic any more.
Also, you could go to Cologne via Arnhem to see the Pegasus Bridge and museum.
