clio sport, any good?
the reason i ask is i had one behind me the other day, i was in my wifes frst, its standard apart from the actuaters had a couple of turns so and the engine is mint only done 56,000 hardly ever been thrashed, he turned left when i did a right so i had a look at the back to see sport wrote on it.. i was flat to the pedal and it was up my arse, but never took me even on a big flat road..

very very expencive when thing go wrong. parts are very expencive ie a fog light is just over Ł100. fast but not worth the hasle. mate bought 1 brand new when they first came out cost Ł15500 put a clifford c500 ( cost another Ł500) then a year later after all his problems he could only get Ł8000 for it. it spent more time in renault that out.
I've test driven the 172 Cup, and my brother-in-law has the 172 on a 51 plate. 172 is softer, but easier to drive, and feels like the 172 Cup would with a couple of passengers I guess.
They're great fun, but not in the same speed league as a Cossie. Also, not keen on the driving position.
Good second hand buy as they depreciate fast. You can get 2.5 year old 172's with 20K miles for under Ł9K in the latest shape. Similar age and shape Civic type R is at least Ł2K more but will last longer.
They're quite easy to get 200 bhp out of (L.A.D do a good conversion) so maybe the one that chased you was tuned?? Still - the normal 172 is about 1100 kg, (only about 100 lighter than a 3door/Saph 2wd, and down a good 55% on power on a good stage 1 Cossie, so not sure how it kept up!!!

Forgot to say - their driving position is a bit weird as well.
For me, I like the Mk2 MR2/Capri/Marcos type driving position - steering wheel close, pedals a long way away and sit low. Clio feels like the pedals are too close, and if you sit back the steering wheel is too far away and the seat always feels too high!! You'd get used to it I guess.

LAD have a shocking reputation nowadays, apparently their "200bhp conversions" make about 2bhp difference in actual fact
Andy,
A 172 & especially a 172 Cup would beat an Alfa 2.5 V6 BTW mate, can't believe you had trouble with one on your bike, you should'a mullered it!
You sure you were twisting the right handle grip?
My mate has a 172 Cup & it is as quick as a standard cossie. 170bhp & only 1,021kg. Go round corners like no other car I've been in

Ive got one, great cars 30+ MPG as fast as a std cossie imho and the handling would kill it
.
As good as CTR but cheaper for the obvious reasons
, but being realistic the build quality is miles better than a cossie because as time moves on quality just improves as people expect it.
