Default Thinking of buying a 3 door (help)

Hi, I have owned a 2wd Saphire Cosworth now for the last three years. I am thinking of selling it and buying a 3 door. What sort of things should I be looking for? How do I how it is the real thing. Are certain colours worth more etc? What sort of money will I need to have put aside.

Thanks

Hi Staffi, thanks for the pictures it looks excellent! What sort of price am I looking at? What are the spares like to get hold of? Are there common faults or rust areas I should be looking out for?
Thanks

Hi matey, rust can be an issue, there 20yrs old now, inner wings etc, spares, still alot of tuners doing cossys so shouldn`t be a great problem, price depends on the car, etc condition, history, do you want a modified one, or standard..........whats your budget.........if poss take someone with you that knows the cars inside out.........tunning wise, i would go nowhere else other than NMS Karl is awesome at what he does, real nice guy aswell, and what i think is worth everything, he`s honest,

Hello Cos, go get one mate they are great cars I went from a saff to a 3door and dont regret it. As Pete says front inner wings are worth checking as they dont have full arch liners and most have had 20 years of salty crap chucked at them.

Also check the rear chassis beams as with the saff as these can go but dont seem to be as bad as the saffs. Other than that dont be put off by a cracked dash as 95% of them have gone it’s a design fault that was fixed with the saff.

Expect to pay about 7k for a good one going up to 10k for a low mileage immaculate example. Colours dont seem to effect prices but I personally think they look best in white but if you find a good one dont be put off by the colour.

Good hunting!!

Were there equal numbers of each colour, if not what was the split?

if you have had a saf for two years you should be an expert as they are very similar cars to 3 doors in alot of ways.

Thanks for the advise. I can't say I have had trouble free motoring with my saf (lol). Do they drive they drive the same, is a saf heavier? I am going to end up throwing endless amounts of money at a 3 door or are they fairly reliable on the whole?
Thanks

No i dont think they drive the same, does any two cars of that age though.. My three door fely much lighter than the saff, also think the 3door shell is more ridged

Think you need to make sure the floorpan chassis numbers are stamped upwards if you want an original shell....................

Thanks for the info on the floorpan, never relaised this!! I have been took look at a 3 Door, but chassis number isn't there owner said that is was cut out when floorplan was welded, he has pictures of the work carried out, not to sure. Please advise! Also I own a S1 RST completely standard with Full Ford service history 70K, hasn't been cut or welded dried stored since 2000. The owner of the 3 door wants to px any thoughts?
Thanks for all the help!!

There are plenty of 3 door Cosworths out there, it is just a case of asking the right questions, especially regarding the chassis stamps (stamped down means a reshell and should be reflected in the price) and going and looking .................. Don't rush into it.
