Cheers guys. I'm not sure why the pictures are so small. I resized them a bit but no where near that much. stupid photobucket. I'll try and put them up again.

Not sure of the exact spec as i'm not too up on mini's. Think it's the following.

It's a 1.3 injection mini sprite

Ported/polished head with bigger valves
K&N Induction kit
Something something (some ratio) rockers
Twin upswept dtm back box
Maniflow LCB manifold with cat removed

there could be more but that's all I can remember for the engine.

Corbeau Forza seats with sabelt 3 point harnesses
Custom made dash
Rover sports pack arches
Sparco Mudflaps front and back
6 x 13" superlight wheels with A539 tyres

1.5:1 roller rockers?

AndyBlackFRST that mini looks crazy.

chip-3door My mate is toying with the idea of turbocharging a 1380 block but anywhere that sells complete turbo engines doesn't supply the turbo or suggest what size to use. What would you recommend? He's not going for crazy power as he wants it for a B road, track car. Any suggestions?

dont use a 1380, use a 1293 - thicker block.

best thing is to get a complete metro turbo engine and rebuild it, then u have all the bits.

That's what I was thinking as well but, i havent seen a metro turbo for about ten years and have no idea where you could get an engine from.

Easy option = buy complete metro turbo engine

Non easy option = depends on his budget.

The T2 is a good turbo for a road going A series.

Personally i NEVER recomend over 100bhp on a road going A series though, due to the reliablity of the gearbox above that, and for that he is better off with something like an SW10 cammed 1380, which will make over 100bhp without any lag!

1275/1293 = best size for turbo, as said above, due to the block thickness

I would never build another a series mini though, better to put a modern engine in IMHO (like the 550bhp or so one im doing at the moment, see my sig)

Chip I didn't think a turbo would be the best idea on a mini. I think he wants to get it to around the 100bhp mark to keep the driveability the mini has.

All these B16, XE powered mini's look ridiculously fast but do they actually handle like a normal mini? I would have thought they had far too much power to put it down well out of corners etc so wouldnt actually be as fun as a normal mini where you just stick your foot down and go?

What sort of spec engine would you suggest then chip, I know he's thinking about buying a complete engine and just dropping it in but there seems to be so many mini companies offering engines etc with some wild power claims. Anyone you would suggest?

Depends on his budget.

I used to spend around 2K to build a decent 100bhp A series engine, doing the build myself but paying for the rebore etc.

I think he's looking around the 2/2.5k mark for it. But that price is for a complete drop in unit.

TBH, most companies will just "throw one together" for that money

Could try asking AC Dodd from minilikes motosport for a quote, i trust him more than anyone else in the world with an engine, he really is a fucking legend, but i dont think you will get a very high spec for that money.

Most companies will fill it full of go faster bits but not engineer it correctly, Adrian is the opposite, only uses parts that are needed but fuck me the engineering side is absolutely spot on for every single aspect of the engine.

Im sure Alex will quote you for an engine too (afracing) but although i have a lot of respect for alex's obvious knowledge of engines i have no personal experience of any engine he has built so cant recomend him as such, i only ever recomend people based on my experience of their work rather than just cause they are a good friend.

Depending on how much of a hurry he is in, i might have a secondhand engine, 98bhp, 276 cammed going spare, its only done 2K miles since i built it, but its not been used for 3 or 4 years and i would need to pull it apart and inspect it before i could say for certain if its still ok.

I would want 750 for the bottom end (its 1380cc with omega pistons and arp bolts etc) with 276 cam, and 350 for the cylinder head which was custom made to suit that engine, so that might be an option, also has fully rebuilt gearbox that has done 2K miles, that would be 200 quid.

That would be after it has been stripped and inspected and reassembled with new head gasket and a very light skim to ensure the head is flat.
I would also supply it with the carb as it has been setup specifically for that engine with correct needle etc

It also has ARP head studs.

If he is interested then he can test drive the engine in my mini cabrio before i pull it out, so can see what it goes like.

Here are some pics of the engine:

Chip, i've spoken to my mate and he's definitely interested in your engine if it all turns out to be fine.

He had a couple of things he wanted me to ask you about though.

One was how difficult is it to change his single point injection mini back to a carb. With regards to the ecu etc?

And also would you be interested in fitting the engine in his car and setting it up. Obviously he will pay you for you time etc. Didn't know if you'd be interested at all or wether you had the time to do something like that?

Its not difficult but you need to add a fuel pressure regulator to the shopping list. Also watch out if the alarm is part of the ECU, as junking the injection would junk the alarm as well.

Where abouts is your mate...? I can build or fit or both. Oh and can setup too

Tell him to give me a shout alex@afracing.com

Sorry mate, i wouldnt have the time for that.

Sounds like Alex would though or it could recomend a couple of other people if he cant.

I dont think the single point have the alarm integrated into them, but TBH i dont know a lot about the single point minis as ive never bothered with them cause you cant get any decent power from them.
