I was doing my rounds of my local banks telling them that I'm unemployed and so a bit short on money blah blah blah and had to squirm as the reality of my money situation was highlited to me.

So walked in to my barclays and used the service phone to call barclay card (my last serious debt that I have) and got though to an operator and said.

"Just calling to say that I'm not able to make this months payment on the bill as I'm currently unemployed and just wanted to talk to you about what I can do if anything about this for now."

"Thats fine sir, but you dont owe us any payments."

I nearly dropped the phone.

"Sorry? Dont owe you any payments??"

"Yes your balance is Zero. Thefore you dont owe any money."

"Hang on... there was nearly two grand on it about two weeks ago."

"Yes thats right and a payment of £1,800 was paid on the 20th of Feb... was that not you?"

"Erm... I think I made a mistake.... dont worry about it, I'll check my statements and call you back, thanks."

I haven't a clue how that was paid, so I sharpisly closed the account and cut the card up!!!

 

dont worry mate,, if they have made a mastake they'll soon be on the phone too you

I really dont think they can do much about that then AS I'd have thought you couldn't close the account if there was a balance out standing.



Well done... now- the reason you are so skint isn't because you accidently paid all your money into the account is it?

 

I would send them a letter aswell,like in the post today,just to make sure it was closed.

 

I didn't have two grand when I stopped working.... but I'm two grand better off now!!!!!

Been meaning to get rid of that sodding card for years, but always had money on it. Not gonna pass this chance up!

Actually that can be deemed as fraudulent.

Some poor sod thinks he's paid money into his account but instead it's mistakenly gone into yours and you are keeping quiet about it. What would you think if it was the other way round, I bet you'd be screaming from the rooftops. When the person realises his account hasn't been credited, the bank will be on to you anyway.

 

Well if it is their mistake then I'm sure I will hear about it

besides I have a sneeking suspicion that its actually me gran that might have paid it, seeing as she has been going on about helping me out while I was unemployed!

 

I was going to suggest it might be your Gran Stu - it's very rare for a credit card bill to be a nice round number, so the chances of someone paying in the exact amount into your credit card account by mistake are extremely extremely small!

I wish someone would pay my credit card bills off!

They WILL realise they've made a mistake,sooner or later your going to have to pay and the fact you blatantly knew about it and closed your account thinking you could get away from it certainly wont help you.

Chances are they would have been OK with your situation,mabey smaller payments and freezed the interest ect but now they'll prob demand the full amount owed promptly!

Id go and see them personally...

Did you have insurance on your card?As some companies will clear off your debt upon loosing your Job?
