Insurers for young drivers with old skool fords!
Hey all.
Im wanting to insure my capri soon and obviously want the best quote.
Im 18 and ill be going on my dads policy as he will be the main driver. its a 2.8 capri.
I found some good quotes and have now realised they dont stand because my dads got his no claims on his other car so i cant use it on the capri which has now put it up alot.
cheers

it shouldnt matter about it being on his other car, its his claims built up for him. try calling in to somewhere or ringing them to explain, make sure the car is in your dads name too on the v5 form as my sister had a crash a year ago but the form was in her name instead of being in mums cos she was on hers and got bollocked and insurance didnt pay out for her car
That's the way it works with NCB, it can only be applied to one policy at a time.
There's a company/underwriters call Zurich that do policies where they will match the NCB discount from another policy.
Your dad will need to supply proof of his present NCB (the company should supply this on request) and Zurich will offer a disount on their policy. ie. If your dad has full/5yrs NCB, he'd get a discount equil to, say, 60%. Technically this policy will have no NCB of its own thou, but at the end of the year he's earn't 1yrs NCB which he can then take else where.
Don't know how competitively priced Zurich are, but could be worth a call.

Otherwise it shows that the parent has insured the son/daughters car with them as a second/named driver just to get cheaper insurance. The normal/obvious trick.
Just gotta do it a bit more carefully.
