You should be able to drift the whole shaft out with the bearing on from the other side with a hide or copper mallet mate, then remove the bearing from the shaft...

By the way,you have taken the drive cup out of the diff haven`t you..?

You have to take the bottom cover plate off the diff and remove the circlip securing the drive cup into the diff assy, then you can take the cup out and the diff will come out easy....

I played around with it earlier and it seemed the intermediate driveshaft was stopping it, so I read in the Ford manual that it had to be removed to get the diff out... So stripped that side down and now got problems removing the shaft!!

There is 2 circlips Damo, but I don't wanna touch the inner one incase its for the bearings and it falls to bits in me hands

Davva, what about re-fitting? Won't it need removing to re-fit the diff??

Nope........Diff just pushes back onto the splines on the end of the shaft...

I cant really remember TBH, I gave up in the end and just took the engine out with it all in place, I DID have to bash it quite hard (with the diff off) to get it out though...

The inner circlip needs to be removed to get the cross shaft out....its the larger one of the two one holds the speedo drive in place the other retains the bearing but the bearing is cased(it wont drop in bits) once the inner circlip is off you can get a slide hammer on to remove...or drift it out....the diff will come out with the cross shaft in but with it out it makes it easy to lower it down with everything still in place...

HTH

Thanks for all the info so far, it is helping

The diff is almost out, but the back end is hitting the steering column, so won't budge to get off the splines!!!

Thers 3 circlips in total. The one holding the drive gear in place was a tosser and the bigger one holding the shaft in place was a complete tosser and I haven't removed the bearing one yet
