do i need to start it once then turn it off straight away, then come back to it the next day to re-tighten the headbolts?
is there anything i need to know or do after it starts for the 1st time?

 

No you dont need to retorque run it up to temp make sure you have hot air in the car thru the vents and that all of the rad is hot then make sure fans cut in allow to cool check coolant and oil level top up if nessasary check over for any leaks

Make sure u leave the plugs out and turn it over till the oil light goes out check the oil level then put the plugs in and start it

i know about that lot, its just the re-torqueing i was unsure of
fingers crossed

 

As Doug said, stretch bolts dont require a re-torque, in fact, you didnt technically torque them down in the first place, you stretched them into their final position...

 

And if you "retorque" them you will stretch them past where they should be, and risk a loss in clamping force.

And before you get on my case Stu, Im at a trackday this weekend so cant come, lol

If its a fresh engine its a good idea to take the dizzy out and turn the 6mm hex to get oil pressure round the system before you even crank over without the plugs.
