Running in freshly built engine. *new quest @ end of page*
I should be getting my Saph back later today.
The engine has had a top end rebuild. new valves, grpA headset, new cambelt, tensioner etc.
My question is this, whats the best way to run the engine in? take it up the motorway for a long drive and put 500 miles on it each way?
or round town driving?
I have heard its better to run it at different speeds etc rather than at one constant speed on a motorway.
anyone shed any light please?

Nothing. There's nothing to bed in. Normally when running in, it's the piston rings against the bores you're concerned about.
Or you could just take it down the dual carraigeway, boot it off the roundabout, and stick it into the armco.
Oh no wait. You've already done that

Ive no idea if they run them up in the factory to do that or if they just rely on the normal running in process they typically instruct you to observe.

just so you know,
to start engine, put key in ignition and turn, if loud knock is heard, rev it 7000rpm for 5 mins, this should clear the problem, if not, turn key oppisite way, step out of car and call a taxi
after calling taxi, dont blink and think it's already there, as thats your car, not a REAL taxi

No real need at all for just a head rebuild.
However I always advise to take it easy for 50 or 60 miles or so after a fresh new head is fitted, just to be safe.
Probably makes sod all difference at all but is there just for piece of mind...
Only the need to run in when a new bottom end and the run in process is to bed the rings in, not to be done on a motorway at a constant speed.
The rings need to heat up and cool down to bed in, up and down the gears speeding up and slowing down is the best way.
