It may be advisable, but it is not necessary to allow fitment.

I personally think that poorly specced coil-obers are the worse thing you could add to ANY Cosworth. Ruins the ride quality.

The only thing that you need to do is "modify" the nearside inner wing with a fuck-off big hammer , as the spring always seems to rub this side (but not the other) on every single Cossie with coil-overs. This will be the creaking you can hear. If you look, you will see a shiney area worn away where the spring has been rubbing (and making the creaking noise). Hit this with big rubber hammer to "shape" it, and then grease the spring for good measure. Job done.

Mike, is this on the front as you mentioned the inside wing ?

My GAZ rears creek like mad aswell but on closer inspection it is actually the inside of the coil on the spring catching the damper body itself

What would cause this ??

Worn bushes, faulty shock ??

Anyone got any ideas what this may be as the coilovers dont seem to have caught on the bodyshell anywhere

Cheers

Sorry Chris, I should have adequately clarified that this is on the REAR only with these clearance problems.

Yeah, you haven't yet "modified" it, as per my post above . Re-read it - ALL Cosworths do this... .

Its weird because ive looked up at rear strutt and there is no sign of rubbing (only on the inside of the spring) ??

Ill check again though

Its the right hand side is that the correct side ?

Nearside = passenger side

If you read my post, I clearly say it is the spring that rubs on the body of the inner wing .

Well mine rubs on the offside

Not on the body shell but on the spring itself...

The body of the shock is catching on the inside of the spring and there is no visable signs of it catching on the bodyshell itself

By opening up the turrets I assume he means e-longating the hole in the top of the turret. This can be done (and in fact on mine we did it very slightly) but you can only really do this if you have a rear strut brace to hold the coilover in the outer most position.

As Mike says, modification to the inner arch is required, and on mine it took quite a bit of persuading with a hammer. Just painted up and greased and all has been well sinse.

PS - Mine are AVO's.
