do 4x4 saffs have amplifiers
ny new toy still has the original ford 2000 stereo in it.
it has the tape head unit, and a slave cd player but when i removed them, there are no speaker wires running to either?
theres a cable connecting them (blue) and one that runs from the headunit to behind the dash (red)
both have thier own power supply connectors
any suggestions how to fit my own cd player and use the original speakers etc
cheers

You bought one then!
Piccies?!
Get your self a ford loom > ISO adaptor. Overpriced for what they are but saves you cutting about a nice tidy factory loom.
What the previous owner did in mine was cut the actual ISO adaptor so that the speaker wires run directly to the speakers in the car. And then just disconnecting the ford speaker wire and tucking it way for later reconnection if needed.

Does the ISO converter not have any speaker connections on it?
On my gfs the headunit has a multiplug that comes out the back of the headunit and goes down to the drivers footwell where there is an amplifier - and obviously the speakers are all connected to this.
Im not 100% sure where the amps are on the saphs. Mine (early 4x4) came with a graphic equaliser in the lower din pocket which the speaker wires were connected to IIRC.

My granada had a ford headunit and lower din cd player. The amp was located behind a panel on the passenger side dash - same place where the ECU is on a 2wd saph.
Do you have a pocket or cover on the passenger side?

the amp is in the passenger footwell, look under the dash to the left, the amp is black finned, about 5" square, fixed to the side of the car, the stereo & cd codes should be on an audio card in the handbook pack.
its in the passenger footwell on the left of the glove box, it has a standard speaker connection plug going to it. u just need to pull the glove box out.
I lengthened the iso adaptor to reach the plug

perhaps i need to have a fresh look, had a look in the audio pack and there was a small card, didnt see any codes on it though.
so i need to make a new iso convertor to run all the way down to near this amp? gonna use the standard stereo for the minute but im sure it wont sound great
top car by the way, and it goes now its stage 3
just remove that little panel on the passenger side footwell
it's got a funny shape to it to cover the amp
all the wires you need will be there, but if you are removing the amp altogether, make sure you tape up the power leads too
the cd/tape combo with leads can go for a fairly good sum on the bay

i take it this means i cant use the amp with my new cd player? (pioneer 8600)
or do they do some sort of convertor for this, maybe from an rca, to this little red ford plug?
may just sling it all and stick it on ebay.

the leads are specificly for the sound set up you've got in teh car
the different sorts all have different plug shapes on the ends where they go in to the back of the radio head unit, a little notch here and there and a few different leads etc
don't try to plug the worn gleads into the wrong place as it's just going to blow shit up if it makes the wrong connections
and no, there isn't really a way to get it to work with the aftermarket stuff
don't cut any wires when you remove the thing, the sierra amp leads are failry rare ebcause the granada ones are way too short to use in their place
you will find that there is a double power type loom in the back of the radio/cd player
un hok this and if you follow it back you will find that it plugs into just one plug for the power etc
you will also find another 2 leads, red/yellow/blue plug covers on the ends
these link the cd to the radio
and then the radio goes to the amp
you then have ANOTHER power lead for the amp and finally the plugs for the speakers
you can get an iso cable long enough to reach from the amp location back to the normal position of the head unit and use another iso block to power up whatever you want to keep in there
as for removal of the amp, it slides up/down/sideways over a set of clips and then pings out

so the plan, buy a ford iso convertor. extend the speaker part of this to reach where the speakers to plug in.
remove old cdplayer and tape player. blank off din. fit new cd amd enjoy standard speakers.
anyone know if the standard sapphire speaker are any good? or is it worth fitting after market ones in there place? dont wanna cut and chop things
pics soon
have been running around all weekend organising my girlfiriends 21st so havent had a chance to really use it.
may get it out and clean it after work tomorrow. so pics then
what size are the standard speakers, in doors and shelve, may just replace them stealth style.

went to halfords yesterday and noticed there were 2 iso convertors in packets next to each other bost listed for ford, and one appeared to have more wire inside it so i bought this
opened it when i got home and it has a short power lead and a long (almost a metre) speaker wire adaptor. think this is the correct one and gonna have a go at fitting it tonight
fitted my new cd player yesterday
really happy with the standard speakers, they sound fine for the minute
i now have a din space which looks horrid but i have plans for that
