Default oil light UPDATE

on my fiesta 2.0 si the oil light usually comes on for a second and then goes off when i turn the ignition on, but tonight it didnt do it no matter how many times i turned the igntion, i drove home really slowly (under 2miles) just to be on the safe side now what can it be? im gonna start with the obvious tomorow and change the bulb but does anybody know what it might mean, i looked in haynes and it only stated for when the bulb was on with the engine running, or am i just being paranoid? thanks

oil lights usually stays on until the engine starts IF it's NOT on at all then maybe the wires come off the switch on the block or the bulb has blown.

the light is a warning light of low oil pressure

as when you first turn ignition on there is no oil pressure
when you start the engine oil pressure quickly builds up the light should go out if not

1st check wiring
2nd replace oil pressure switch
3rd get oil pressure gauge and check pressure
if low requires new oil pump or has blocked pick up in sump

hope this helps

just went out to the car this morning flicked the ignition and the oil light came on and went off when i started it, checked the oil level thats ok, took the oil cap off and it was flicking up oil so it must be getting it, took it for a spin got home turned igntion off, went to check it again and the oil light didnt come back on again, so what does that suggest then??
