Default Car insurance

Will be a legal road raver soon and decided to get some quotes the other day out of boredom. I got quoted -

£3700 For an X5 sport
£3490 For an Escos
£1500 For an 1800 Foccer
£1700 (average) For an RS 2000 Mk 5/6
All fully comp with £600 excess
These to me seem cheap seeing as my First bike was a CBR 250 and cost £1,300 to insure. I was thinking in the region of the RS 2000 seeing as I 've been learning in a focus 1800 anyway and can't see the point in gettin a slower motor. Do these seem like good quotes or would I just be wasting my hard earned brass to get ripped off?? I'm only 21 BTW

imho you're about to make a common mistake, buying a resonable car for your first car and getting raped on insurance.

my advice is buy a bit of a shed and runn it for a few years to build up ncb then scrap it and buy something half decent.

unless of course you have the money to spend a couple of grand on insurance.

how about a 16v XR2i? all but the same engine as the 1.8 focus and will probably feel a bit quicker as it's a smaller car, i dunno what bhp the focus is 115? but the 1.8 fiesta can be made into a 130bhp with not that much work if your handy with the spanners.
