Default Motorbike Question????

At what age can you legally ride a 600cc bike on the roads? I was always under the impression that you had to progress from 125cc machines?

these days you can just do your bike test and get what you want

although a new rider trying to get insured on a hybabusa might be amusing... lol

If I remember correctly, if your 16 you have to ride a 125 for 2 yrs, then you can ride 600's or if your over 21 you can do a unrestricted licence.

Yea an 18 year old can ride a 600cc bike but it has to be restricted to 33bhp for legal road use. If you do ur full bike licence at 17 then u have to ride a machine that is no more than 33bhp for two years (the equiv to a 125). After that u can ride watever.

Reason for my asking was there was a fatal bike accident in my town on Friday. Saddly both the rider and his pillion were killed

The rider was an 18 year old and the bike was reported as being a 600cc machine and a few comments that have been made got me thinking.

A sad and tragic loss of two young lives

at 21 you can do direct access and jump on any sized bike

if you are 17 and do your test you are restricted to 125cc or 33bhp for 2 years then the restriction is lifted

you can restrict large capacity machines to 33bhp(ive got a 650 and mine can be restricted) but they generally dont like to run like that as they are strangled by the restriction kits

Dont you have to do a year on a restricted or sub 33bhp bike, inless you under 21 then you have to wait till you 21. Think you can get just about anything restricted now tho. might be better off asking here https://passionford.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=64

Steve it may be sad but these lads had been drinking in The Cork most of the day and were doing wheelies up and down Parkway...One of the lads was also not wearing a crash helmet and it was only a matter of time before something happend and an innocent 3rd party to be injured by their stupidity which is what happened.... Also the driver worked for a Motorbike shop so im sure even though the bike should have been resricted i bet it wasnt!!!!

Sorry but i have no time for people like this....what do they expect???
