On the front of the block I have in the middle 87 then I have 88 on the block on the front again but at the bottom middle. How can I tell what year the block is? I am asking this due to me ordering some main bearings and the ones supplied are the wrong type. Apparently they are for the later model where the bearings changed slightly.

my block says 89 on both sides and mines a late 1 i think early 1s are 88 and 89 is later

 

Thanks for all the replies. Found ot what year it was by using the 2 letter on the engine code. Its HP which according to Burton Powers Catalogue is a December 1987 block.
