New Camera's On The M11 (Past Stanstead Heading North J8/J9)
Anyone know anything about them? They seem to have just gone up, roadworks around the area but no set speed limit signs anywhere
I *think* they may be specs cameras, there are about 4 sets of them on each side of the carrage way with two cameras on each pole (over hangs both lanes) The camera's are yellow with two box's either side of the main unit.
Don't these clock your average speed over a certain distance? They seem to be roughly 2 or 3 miles in length to pass all four sets of cameras.
Anyone know anything about them ?
I use the road a fair bit and tbh doesn't seem like an area for concern accident wise.

Its because the M11 is being re-surfaced and they do measure your speed over a set distance,
3 cameras both sides at approx start, middle then end
Only there for approx 12 weeks

I was doing about 70 on approach to the first one, braked to below 60 and then maintained a steady 50 odd for the remaining couple miles until the end of the cameras
The speed limits is 40 mph cameras prob allow 10% from when you past the first camera to the last camera, that means an average of 40 over the distance
This info is from a very good source , all i can say

TBH though, there were no workers around, perhaps the limit is enforced in the week when they are working at the side of the road (which is understandable!)

The government told us no more Gatso's. However I know through work that although the Gatso's time is coming to an end they are to be heavily using average speed systems instead.

according to my local paper, they should be there for about 12 weeks, and the limit is 40mph, the last time the speed limit was put up on the m11, was between stansted and harlow, thousands per day were geting fines

Work will be carried out 24-hours a day Monday to Saturday, with occasional work on Sundays, A 40mph speed limit will be in place for the whole 12-week period. Cameras will measure drivers' average speeds through the roadworks to ensure the safety of drivers and road workers.
Nice to see I wasn't the only one to notice there was no speed restriction in place over the weekend. I'm hoping it's not being enforced yet, and maybe the camera's are'nt working yet....but it'd be nice for someone to confirm if the limit is being enforced this week as I am not going to cover that road for the next couple of weeks.
found another one for you, according to this site ( government so bound to be wrong ) it starts from 6 this morning.

Kinda makes sense now, how the poles had gone up end of last week minus the camera's, camera's were up yesterday, no speed limit enforced. If anyone uses this stretch of road daily then let us know if there is a 40 limit now being enforced
