Stamina training?
I needed a part time job to get me throught the summer so joined the TA as a alternative to working in some shity call center or the like
How ever the guy at the center told me that my selection is in about 4 weeks time and they give you an idea of what the army scene is all about but also test your fitness and there is a 1.5 mile run witch must be ran in under 13 mins or you have to wait another 3 months to try again
Sounds easy for some but i can run the lenght of myself, ran around the local loch today and its 1.1 miles round and did it in 9:13 but i was totaly cunted, weezing like fuck and i couldnt go on any more
The guy at the TA center say running once only is a waste of time and i should be running for about 40 mins, so thought i would ask on here as i know alot of you do cardio
So does anyone have any training tips for building stamina?

1.5 miles in under 13 mins? That's a new one on me, it used to be 14. When I was training for the PARAS you had be able to run 1.5 miles in under 9:18 AFTER doing a 3.5 mile warm up run. Now thats hard going lol
Best advice I can give to you, is eat well, lots of carbs, brown bread, pasta, potatoes etc and bananas, get 8 hours sleep a night and for fitness, put your running shoes on and run! But in different ways for example;
Monday - 3 miles run
Tuesday - 2 mile run
Wednesday - Day Off
Thursday - Find a hill, run up it, walk down and repeat untill you spew.
Friday 1.5 mile run
The better you get at the longer runs, such as the 3 miles, the easier you'll find the 1.5 mile run. The first 20 minutes of your run is the hardest (hense the 3.5 mile warm up for the Para run, you'd be supprised when your through that enitial barrier just how hard you can push yourself), after that you just plod along. If your only doing 1.1 miles in 10 mins odd, your not even half way through the hardest bit, just keep running!

im in the TA atm,
as for selection, just run, make sure you have a decent pair of running shoes and make sure your not last, just watch the guy in front.
also there's press up's and situp's.
not sure how old you are so the requirments are different.
the worst one is under 21 which is 44 press up's in 2 minute's (easy) and if i remember 50 sit up's in 2 minutes. there's also a chin up test, and a "clean and jerk" test, think i got that right...
also the TA is a great mob
been in over a year now and going to Cyprus for 2 weeks in august courtasy of the tax-payer
"for infantry tactics in the hottest time of the year"
but good luck and tell us how you get on
