Default treadmill users advice please

Advice please in 1998 i was involved in a serious motorbike crash my right leg isnt 100% even tho i walk ok i have never really run or did any sports there is loads of scarring / skin graph & musscle been placed on my right foot/shin muscle is from my right thy(sp)
I have bought a treadmill as i need a bit of exercise i have it in the garage & planning taking it easy & working up whats the most you want to start with first how long? im 30 now & have a little bit of a gut mostly because i work in a office so never do much walking ect.
Also while on a treadmill would running with small dumbells help as well?
I have been watching what i eat & also not buying hot rolls at work been bringing sandwhiches & soup ect.
Im also only drinking on a sat night & maybe a chineese! im not fat by any mannor of means i reckon my gut would go with a little bit on the treadmill.

do low intensity cardio mate on the treadmill.for me and loads of others its the best at burning fat.i dont know what sorta treadmill you have but has it got incline capabilities on it?at my gym i just go for an incline of 7.pretty steep and a pace of 4 which is near a fast walk.do this for 30-40 minutes.basically wana keep your heart rate between 125-140.you dont have to run like hell to shift weight.i sweat just as much doing low intensity stuff.

jsut advice i wouldent use a tradmill
because it dosent actuali act the same as proepr running because of the floor underneath is moving not your legs properly.
it does no good when you come to run on the ground
run on the streets if you want to run
