Default Zetec over heating, HELP PLEASE

Hi everyone, I have a mk 6 fiesta 2006 1.6 zetec s and it over heating!
I have had a look today and....
Top water hose is boiling and bottom is freezing!
Heating inside car is cold and gauge on dash reads normal but header tank is bubbling hot!
Done a sniffer test and a compression test that both come back fine!
I have taken the thermostat out and checked that it opened ok!
Do you think it's a water pump???

Cheers
Danny

Anyone???
Does anyone know if the water pumps are known for breaking on the zetec se engines?
Are the propellers on the water pump metal or plastic???
Thanks for you help

on the late ones the waterpump holds the timing belt tensioner so you need to do a belt kit aswell

if you took the stat out and its still boiling over id have a look at the waterpump, although they are metal impellors

Little update (still need help)

Had the water pump off today... They are plastic, but its fine!

I'm really baffled now!.... Had a few people suggest head gasket but I'm not convinced + I've done a sniffer test & compression test that both came back fine!

What else could it be?

Cheers
Danny

ooooooooooooooooooh also, one thing to check that ive came accross a couple of times

on the back of the head, theres a small pipe that comes out of the head (g/box side)

the aluminium 90degree pipe currodes and blocks solid with currosion and shyte, make sure the pipe is free and the hole in the head is too!

this is the "bleed pipe" that returns water/air to the tip of the header tank

I've had a load of these with the similar issue, its normally the stat or expansion bottle check the bottle for creasing or cracks, and check the stat, also I've had a few with cracked heads, does it cut out and go into limp mode
