Default mk2 fiesta 1.1 to 1.6 cvh straight swap?

hi guys

does anyone know if the 1.6cvh engine drops straight into the mk2 fiesta or do you have to modify anything to get it in? its on a carb so getting it going shouldnt be to much of a problem i was just wondering as my 1.1s getting a bit boring now and my friend has offered me one for cheap.

nice one

If you have all the bits needed, then it will go straight in.

Umm, I'm not to sure, I would imagine it would be a simple swap over whatever wiring there is. Is it carb or efi?

Far better idea is to go 2L Zetec, these go virtually straight in, in terms of fitment, with a little fabrication to the mount I believe, far better engine then the old CVH.

Why??? The 1.6 CVH was the standard engine in the MK2 XR2 and they didn't cut anything @Ford before they put the engine in.

I KNOW there will be no problem with the fuel tank. Earlier 1.1s might have the smaller fuel tank, but they will also work fine with the 1.6 CVH engine.

@MK2Fez: body shell XR2 and non XR2 are the same, except

- holes for the bodykit
- rolled rear arches
- boot floor (bulge for wider 185/60R13 spare wheel)

and maybe holes for higher spec door cards, mounting bracket for light/clock (if your car is a low spec one)

Just make sure you use the XR2 engine mount and the XR2 gearbox bracket!

Possibly, the standard setup will have a mechanical pump and a carb, a lot depends upon the fuel delivery of the XR2 engine, from memory the early ones were carb and the later ones FI?

I think if it were me, I would be tempted to fit a 2L Zetec, these are almost a direct fit in the MK2 just requiring engine mount fabrication IIRC.

The alt only hits with an escort alt bracket fitted. Use the XR2 one which hangs the alternator down instead in it clears with no cutting.

OP, providing you have a fuel return pipe then its a doodle to do. Off the top of my head you'll need engine, gearbox and shafts, (pretty sure you can use the 1.1 gearbox and shafts though) xr2 cradle and engine mount, xr2 alt bracket and xr2 servo and brake bar and bigger front brakes. Straight fit with no cutting required. Slight mod need to the wiring for the different position of the temp sender and ignition module.

All XR2 MK2s were carbed (even the TT ones). It was when Ford introduced the XR2i MK3 that EFI was used.

Cheers, thought they were (Weber I believe) the MK3 also had 1800 Zetec engines as well, as you know.

Yeah they had webers fitted, slightly smaller on the 86 on cars iirc.

The MK3 XR had the 1.6 cvh efi which was updated later on with the 1800 zetec.
