xr2 charging

iv got a c reg mk2 xr2.iv changed the battery and the alternator but it still drains the battery.i charged it up 2 day.it started fine.i drove around 4 half hour then the bat was flat again.i can't see any broken earth leads.any one know what cound b causing this.

is it actually charging? use a multimeter accross the batt terminals whilst engine is running, you should be seeing around 14 volts, & more than 12+ volts with all electrical apliances on. if your not, check the fanbelts on, the wiring running from the alternator to the starter is intact & theres water in the battery, if that all checks ok, i would personaly still suspect the alternator new or not. with a charged battery (and idealy with a cold engine) the alternator (if at fault) will get hot when the battery has been conected for a while (half hour or so) with ignition off.

i will have 2 look at the clocks 2moz,how many bulbs is there 4 the clocks.and the aternator i fitted came from my other xr2 that in useing 4 spares so i know it works and the battery came from my rs so i know that works.i brought the car from a mate it was stood 4 a while but he said he never had this problem.

just been out 2 the car and put a multimeter across the battery and it is at 14volts wiv the engine running and went between 12 and 13v wiv the lights on.
